Time, in all worlds, in all dimensions, flows like a river.

This is an inexact metaphor, of course. Trying to describe the flow of time in ways a layman can understand is exceptionally difficult. But a river is, perhaps, the most apt -- as it flows in one direction constantly, so it also exists in its entirety. One point on the river is equal to another; though most people experience a sense of progress as they float down these canals, the fact remains that the time they are in one point of the river continues to exist at the same time as that point further down. And so it goes, until that river ends, either by drying up or by emerging at the great ocean of time, where all timelines merge into a single singularity -- a multiverse, if you will.

Like rivers, too, time does not flow in a single direction. One river will branch into two, continuing with people none the wise. One river will slowly curve, further and further, until the flow of time cuts it off, forever creating a separate lake out of the flow of time, a permanent encasing of one set of events even as a new timeline emerges. Eddies may occur, scrambling the elements of time into a form similar yet still vastly different. And in some rare cases, rivers may merge altogether, causing curious mixtures of all shapes and forms.

No single being who comes from within the flow of time can permanently alter its course. Even those who time travel can at best create a new branch, unaware that the branch they attempted to halt continues on long after they no longer pay attention. Instead, the greatest dangers come from outside -- powerful, unknowable entities with their own vested interests. Some of them are like fishermen, removing elements without regard for their effects on the flow. Others are like contagions who, as they infiltrate, slowly crush the life out of the rivers they enter. And, very rarely, some simply dam the river, dooming that timestream to stagnation.

So then. Are we powerless to affect such forces? Or are we, as an organization who has forced itself outside of time itself, the only ones who can keep time's waters clean and safe?

Hmm... I wonder. Perhaps you can help us find the answer to this.

((A general idea of the setting I had in mind for the semi-regular "chat style" RP sessions. The live stuff would be more dedicated towards more direct action; a journal community could be used if people wanted more CR/slice of life elements.))

There are probably worse places to wake up in as far as unknown locations go. This place looks sort of like a hotel lobby, with several couches set up that you might notice have others just becoming aware of their circumstances. A table is set up nearby with a continental breakfast and coffee, and some very nice flower arrangements. One wall has a large flat-screen television mounted on it with speakers on either side, and the other walls have inspirational posters, frequently featuring cats and B-list celebrities. The only other furniture of note are a phone on the wall and a table with a number of what appear to be letters on it.

Before you can figure out wtf, the screen flares to life, revealing perhaps the least intimidating "kidnapper" ever. He's short, portly, and seems to be fidgeting a bit as he addresses the camera.

"This thing on? ...*ahem* Greetings, friends! I'm sure you're quite confused about waking up from whereever you usually come from to find yourself in a place like this. I, uh, apologize for that. Seems like the etiquette for these multidimensional affairs is always a bit lacking for some reason. Not sure why that is..." He pauses for a bit, mulling this, before looking back to the camera. "A-anyway! I understand if you are in a rush to get back to... whereever, but do hear me out. My name is Rocky Road. Perhaps you have heard of my cousin, Brick?" He waits for a bit, then suddenly remembers the communication doesn't go both ways. "Er, I suppose you wouldn't. He's quite a famous dungeon builder where we come from. Whole family specializes in it. Haven't heard from him in a while, though... oh, that's not important! What's important is the following."

He clears his throat. "See, I have developed a remarkable new technology for dungeon building! I call it the Soul Builder. ...Not a great name, I know. Anyway, it taps into the innate nature and character of the people who travel through it and constructs a unique dungeon experience for anybody who enters! Fun for the whole family! ...is the theory. See, I need to put it through some test runs. So I needed a nicely diverse group to do so. But it's rather hard to do the communication myself. Ah... if you choose not to engage, I do have the way back, right here, ah..." He fumbles a bit with a remote and some instructions. "...Yes, this is what they left me. Just call me on the phone and I'll send you right back. That said, if you do indulge me, I do have a rather nice offer for all of you for the beta-testing, if you'll look at those individualized contracts on the table over there. I do hope you'll take me up on it. ...That's all."

The television goes blank. The phone and forms are close to each other, and upon finding the one with your name on it...

That's HOW many zeroes?

Basic premise: A somewhat light-hearted dungeon romp, in which a random dungeon is populated with rooms suggested by the players. The first room is always the lobby, the last the "last boss." The lobby is always available and stocked in case people need a break and want mingling time. I don't want it to get too deadly serious, although obviously some rooms will be more serious than others.

There is only one major requirement for rooms: there must be some sort of obstacle or challenge that must be completed before the room can be exited. Sometimes that's just finding the exit itself. It can be mind-boggling puzzles, dangerous traps, challenging foes, or even phenomena that force the various player characters to confront their own inner selves. The sky's the limit.

The economy being what it is, one can easily understand the need to find odd jobs to make ends meet on occasion. For those with a particularly daring bent and an open mind -- not to mention the means, accidental or otherwise, to reach the place -- the Interdimensional Temp Agency is there to provide for all of your jobbing needs, whether in this dimension or in another one altogether. Just be sure the job is appropriate to your skill level; it's really bad for their bottom line if their temps get killed, after all.

This is not quite a meme. Parts of it are meme-LIKE, but a lot of it relies on a certain degree of variance as opposed to more standard memes. That said, there are a few jobs on the board that are fairly generic, if you want to roll for them. This portion probably translates easiest into a general meme should someone decide to replicate this elsewhere:

Generic jobs )

Where this meme varies, however, is the OTHER option: Crafting a mission based upon a fandom you're in of your own making. This obviously requires a bit more thought and GMing, but if that's your sort of thing, it can actually be pretty fun. Of course, it could also be pretty basic if you want it to. Whatever works. The following jobs are, for example, what I've got to offer:

Canon Specific Jobs )

Finally -- and this is something I'm DEFINITELY only offering here: For anybody interested in IRC dungeon crawls, I'd be willing to run a "mission." This is more in depth, more exploratory, and faster paced. If you're not good at IM-style RP, this might not be for you, but if anybody is interested, lemme know and I can set something up.

Annnd we're live. Let me know if any links go to the wrong place, like the previous meme's link. I've gotta cut corners SOME times, you know.

Uh oh, I want some more, uh oh, what are we waiting for? )

Since I know this has expanded somewhat out of my group of friends, I have the following help requests if anybody feels like it. They're not requirements, obviously, but they'll help me out, and help people pinpoint games better.

- A few identifying "tags." These range from thematic (horror, sci-fi, etc.) to characters allowed, to style of game (jamjar, AU, smut, etc.).
- Even more optionally, if someone wants to provide a quick 1 sentence summary of their game, feel free to post it in the comments and I'll incorporate it in the game's listing.
- Finally, if you see a game that doesn't exist anymore, since I leave games on the directory regardless of whether they're requesting things or not, let me know so I can remove it.

Thanks for reading, and do let me know if there's any problems.
